I want to install two 18" grab bars in my 36" square one piece
fiberglass shower stall. The stall walls are backed by drywall.
I have located some of the studs. My problem is the approx. 1" space between the fiberglass surround and the drywall in the places were I need to mount the bars. I am concerned that I will
crack the fiberglass and not have a strong attachment due to the
space between the fiberglass and drywall. Your advice will be appreciated.

Pre-drill holes in the fiberglass, and use at least 3" screws to hold the grab bars to the studs.
Good luck!
