A couple basic questions as we get ready to tile the upstairs bath in our 1923 bungalow. Directly over the joists are a combo of plank flooring and 3/4 plywood (which replaced the plank flooring where plumbing was installed). I'm planning to lay 19/32 ext. grade plywood over the entire floor followed by 1/4 Wonderboard. We are installing 1-inch hexagonal tile (made by Daltile) over the backerboard to match the style of the house. The hex tile is 3/16" thick.

My (first) questions:

(1) Should (can) I use regular wood screws to screw down the plywood to the existing subfloor? (if so are No. 8 X 1" a good size for this?)

(2) What kind of screws should I use for screwing the 1/4" Wonderboard to the plywood subfloor? (the shortest galvanized screws I could find were 1 5/8, which seems longer than I would need)

(3) Can a heavy duty construction adhesive be used to bond the backerboard to the plywood, or do I need to buy thinset mortar instead?

Thanks in advance!!
