View Full Version : Concrete slab for spa

I am having a landscaper pour a concrete patio in the backyard. The slab is about 20 x 25. The back corner of the slab is for the spa.

He said the slab will grade away from the house at about 2 degree angle for drainage purposes. The problem is that the spa slab must be level. Therefore, the portion reserved for the spa will have a "lip" that will get gradually more pronounced (up to 2 inches). This is due to the downward slope of the slab versus the flat surface of the spa portion of the slab.

What are my options? Is there a way to smooth the lip so it isn't an eyesore or dangerous to your feet? The landscaper mentioned that I could grade the spa pad and cut wood to place under the spa to level it. I don't want to do that.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cory

We sell them Turf Pavers... http://www.ephenry.com/environmental/turf.html for under hot tubs also! Being open cored, and looking much like a honey comb, you can keep the units level, they can certainly carry the load... and still allow the moisture to percolate back into the ground.

Good luck!

Cory, from your description I'm not sure I understand the problem. It sounds like the contractor wants to slope the slab away from you house, a good thing, and then make the slab level where the spa will sit, not such a good thing. Water under the spa will have no where to go and can cause problems. Have the contractor make sure all the slab drains properly.

Don't portable spas come with levelers, or at least a wood or fiberglass skirt which will hide the leveling material like shims or blocks? I think I'm missing the point since all this seems obvious.

Let me know, Nuc
