Need to lay a brick floor in a 10x12 sunroom. The original concrete pad was out of level so someone came and poured new cement over top of it to make it level. What I was told was there is one half inch of new cement on one end of the room and at 12 feet there ended up being about 3 inches of new cement.I'm not too crazy about the idea of laying brick on this new thin surface, however being an enclosed sunroom there are no temperature extremes.I'm not sure on whether this new surface should be chiseled out or can be left alone.Any ideas would be helpful

What's wrong with the pour? Did they not use a bonding agent? Based on the finished concrete height, how thick can your pavers be? You must consider the doors entering the room and your setting bed. You can't set the pavers directly on the concrete. (No matter how level you think the concrete is, your pavers will not sit perfectly flat on the slab.) Are you planning on setting your pavers in a mortar bed.. or just simply set them in sand?

Tell me more about your options.

What made the slab become unlevel in the first place? Could be the ground was not compacted properly & settled. Now an additional 3" has been needed to bring it level. Will the ground continue to settle with the additional weight????

Well I finally went to look at this mess - apparently the homeowners poured there own pad and when they discovered it was not level they added to it.My guess is that the original pad was not cleaned, scrubed and dampened before they poured the new stuff. They also poured it in small sections over time which allowed for too many joints and shrinkage. The new pour is cracked in many places and did not bond well at all.The sections move underfoot.Anyway, looks like I'll be doing some chiseling and removal and repouring a good part of this if not all of it.The bricks themselves will be layed in mortar once I get a good solid base, height is not an issue, there is plenty of room all around in addition to the fact that I'll be repouring this anyway.
