I want to replace mulch with drain or pea gravel, I'll need about 6 yards of the stuff. The only place availabel to dump it is at the end of the brick driveway.

My question is-can the weight of that much gravel damage the brick?

It's on a sand base with a white cement/sand mix between the bricks.

Since you've only got a sand base under the brick paving, a dump truck on your drive could cause damage. Regular automobiles are 4,000 lbs. The truck, plus the load, could be 10 times that weight. If your brick were on a concrete pad you might chance it. However, park at the curb for a weekend.... and have them dump your mulch on plastic at the front of your drive... the material weight spread out over a large area won't be problem... you'll have to tote the mulch around... getting a good workout... but you'll save your driveway... and not damage your existing lawn by dumping on it.

Do I understand you correctly... that I should not have the gravel dumped ANYWHERE on top of the brick but, in the street?

The stone place wanted me to sign a waiver to back over the swale and pavement, just in case. I wasn't willing to gamble on that. I knew the brick couldn't take the weight of the truck and the gravel but I was hoping if dumped at the end of the drive the weight wouldn't sink or crack the brick.

It wouldn't be the first time I had to wheel barrow tons of soil or stone.

I guess I could go the bag route but there is quite a difference in cost doing it that way.

the gravel weight should be fine... just keep that concentrated weight of the truck wheels off the drive...

don't use bags... you'll be paying for the plastic!

Thanks for a speedy reply.

It's okay then to have them dump the gravel on the brick as long as they keep the truck off? Should I still put down plastic?

Can you give me some kind of visual idea, size wise, what a pile of 6 yds of gravel will like?

Thanks again.
