Painting - Sanwash paint?

My wife and I recently tried painting our bathroom wall with Behr sandwash paint. The wall had previously been painted with a very high gloss paint. We used primer prior to painting, but onve the paint had dried we were shocked at the streakiness of the paint. We then put on a second coat, and it improved, but the quality was still not what we wanted. A third coat was then put on, and the paint still appears spotty. We assume that the wall was probably not primed well enough, and that is the cause of the spotty paint job. Now we have a very dark spotty, sandwashed wall, and we wonder what we should do to improve the looks. We are not a very happy couple.
