I have a 10 ft baseboard that runs along the floor and at first is flush for 2 feet and then it starts to come up steadily from the floor about 1/4 inch or more at the other end of the wall.

The floor is uneven ( it is a slate tile floor with lots of indentations etc.)

What should do I do to get rid of the gap, or make it look a bit more presentable?

scribe it to the floor.
Set the molding to the highest point on the floor and tack it level. Use a compass or tape a spacer to a pencil that equals the largest gap and run it along the floor so the pencil traces the floor along the bottom face of the molding. Cut or sand to the pencil mark and install the molding.
