I am currently working on my kitchen remodel, which is completely removing the plaster and laths and rewiring and insulation. Getting the walls to be straight is a nightmare. Some of the studs are only round pieces of wood with a semi-flat side to nail the laths to.(This house is at least 140 years old......) In the interest of time I went ahead and put the drywall on the existing studs after adding a few here and there. Now that I want to put the trim on I'm noticing that the door frames and the drywall don't line up evenly. Without making some exotic cut on a piece of wood, is there an easy way to build these frames out to the same plane as the drywall? I've even considered wood filler........ Thanx.

you can cut a board to length (a 1x4 or 1 x 6 should be good), and place it along side of the jamb you are trying to adjust. scribe the board with a pencil along the drywall surface, and cut along this line using a circular saw. this will produce a shim that is exactly the size of the space you are trying to fill. glue or tack it onto the jamb, and finish to match the existing wood of the jamb.
a more precise option would be to replace the jamb with a wide board scribed in the same fashion, but i am assuming you are trying to avoid doing this.
