I've got a 100 year old home I'm re-doing. the pine sub-flooring is original and I've refinished it on all the floors. But the kitcken pine sub-floor is not in very good condition.
Here's my idea. I plan to nail new tongue and groove pine flooring (unfinished) right on top of it. Then I want to stain it in a checkerboard style, 2'x2' squares of black stain and white stain.
My questions are?
1. Can I get the boards tight, so no gaps are showing?
2. What's the best way to nail it down?
3. Will it work?
4. Will it look good?
