The home we recently purchased has hardwood flooring in the den/family room. When it was installed, the base molding was not removed from around the room. The flooring was then installed around the molding. I want to remove this old molding and replace it with a new molding. The problem I am having is removing the old molding without damaging the floor.

One solution would be to leave the current base molding in place and add 1/4 round. It may be easier to finish the 1/4 round before installation and then fill and touch up. Some base won't allow this approace but most will, then there is personal preference, you may or may not like this approach.
