It sounds like this something is obstructing the flow of water into this radiator (assuming all other radiators in the house work fine).

The most likely spot is at the feed valve to the radiator where water must pass through a narrower point.

There is several ways to fix this.

1) Simply open and close the feed valve to the radiator completely several times when your boiler is running. Sometimes this will loosen the obstruction and it is carried away.

2) I heard one poster on this forum several months called a plumber for a similar problem. The plumber removed the knob on the valve and tapped the valve stem gently with a hammer to loosen the onbstruction.

3) If all else fails, you might have remove the upper part of the valve to remove obstruction. This is involved since you have to turn off the boiler power and water supply, drain water from the radiator in question and refill it afterwards. Then you will have to bleed your entire system.

The other potential cause is an obstruction in the return line. If you are not getting flow THROUGH the radiator, it will not be hot.

If you can get water out of the vent, it means you are getting water to the radiator, but you may not be getting water flow through it. You may need to disassemble piping to find the problem.

Hello arkayassoc,

I agree the return line is a possibility.

However, I would still bet on the feed valve being blocked. If it is 98% blocked, you would still be able to bleed the radiator, and yet have a cold radiator.

Typical feed pipes are about 1/2" in diameter and the bleeder valve outlet is about 1/16" in diameter

Make sure the valve at the supply end is not stuck. At least in the UK (the only place I have had radiators) the rubber stopper on the valve could get real comfortable in the closed position. Taking the thermostat off and poking it with a screwdriver fixed it. Of course, this radiator might not have such a thing.
