I took up my old vinyl floor which was only glued around the perimeter. Under that is my plywood subfloor. My subfloor is in very nice shape. Can I glue my new vinyl to the subfloor or do I have to put down lauan plywood.

the important issue is the smoothness of hte underlying surface---if your existing subfloor is free of dents, cracks, seams, or other imperfections, no need for another layer of luan. just know that any imperfections in the underlayment will most likely show on the vinyl and may cause adhesion problems.
