i'm putting in a new woodstove, and it's going in the lower portion of our side-split level home in the following manner: structurally, on the concrete floor i'm putting: brick laid on side topped with 23/32" (3/4" essentially) plywood, topped with 1/2" backerboard, topped with ceramic tile. do i need to use fiberglass tape & thinset between backerboard & plywood in addition to screwing backerboard to plywood?

Hi
Yes...it's really important to use thin set between the board and the plywood. It fills any voids between the layers, and give a much stronger base for your tile.;)
