My water heater lp/gas burner is making a flame from the orifice to the burner. I have cleaned the burner and I need to know how much yellow flame is normal.

Hello Louis and Welcome to the Heating and Cooling Appliance forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
No yellow flames are exceptable. If you still have yellow pilot and or burner flames, recheck the cleaning job. Chances are some lint still remains in the intake air openings.
If there still is yellow burner flames after a second cleaning, the burner may be but not likely to be overgassed. An over gassed situation is usually caused when an appliance is converted from one fuel to another.
OEM factory settings are most often correctly set for the type of gas the appliance is set to use. Rarely, if ever, does the maker use the incorrect orifice.
There are still other more complicated conditions that could apply here. Based solely upon the limited information provided and if the appliance has operated correctly thus far, lint may be the culprit.
Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair proceedures and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.
