The oven door was locked after my daughter accidently slid the self cleaning handle over. I tried to pry it open with a knife hoping to disengage the handle but I hit something and got sparks. Now the oven will not turn on at all. The stove works fine. What is the part I killed and where can I get a new one?

Hello Sewing. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
The part that the knife came into contact with was the door lock micro switch. It uses electrical power to operate.
First, unplug the stove. In order to replace the switch you'll have to remove the panels that cover it and remove the switch. Also check for any possible fuses that may be used. One could be located anywhere on the appliance.
Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem solving methods, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair proceedures and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.
An excellent source for orginal replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store. Appliance parts dealers test and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store.
