I'd like to refininsh my hardwood floors in a 4 year old house with humidifier. There are 10 or so open cracks from contraction and I'd like to know if I can repair (refill) them before applying urethane. The cracks range from 1/8 inch to less. If I use wood putty will it remain stable in the humid seasons? Thanks

Filling cracks between boards in hardwood floors tends not to be recommended because of expansion/contraction issues. I have seen floors where putty and fillers have crumbled and been forced out of the cracks, making for some unsightly areas in floors. Cracks tend to be less noticeable when humidity levels in the home are higher such as in warm, humid months. Thus, the expansion/contraction tends to be seasonal.
