I am worried about my gas water heater. I moved into the propety roughly a year ago and have had no problems with hot water. After reading through a large number of posts at this forum I determined my water heater may have a sediment problem as it makes boiling noises in brief and I will flush it after this post. The boiling noises are not the only problem however. I have a washer comming off of the cold water outlet and i have always noticed poor water pressure during fill cycles. This low pressure problem is unique only to that washing machine and thus i have just been living with it. Recently the local gas company shut off the gas main for matinance. I re-lit the pilot lite with no problem. The same night after relighting the pilot I noticed I now have NO hot water. The lines come cold and remain cold no longer how long i run the hot water both in all sinks and showers. Should i have drained and re filled first before liting the pilot ? Oh and yes the pilot has remained and is still currently lit despite the cold water. It does not appera to be cycling ? Any advice would be appreciated. Sadly I cant give info on type of water heater beyond this because the previous owner painted it the decals and info plates beyond legability. In further addition I am in cold climent weather averagind 20-30 degrees but the water heater is located in the kitchen the warmest room in the house.

Hello Robert. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

The poor cold water pressure and volume to the washer may be caused by the filter screens in the washers hoses and inside the fill valves. The sediment may have restricted them. remove and clean as needed.

In regards to the cold water issue, recheck the pilot light, the flame may have gone out do to an air pocket in the gas line.

If that isn't the case, then rotate to thermostat dial between both extremes of high and low temps.

Also check the position of the control valve. The gas control knob must be in the ON position and NOT the pilot position.

Regards & Good Luck
