My entire upstairs, large landing and three bedrooms, are painted (previous owner) a dark brown with a varnish finish. The floors are fir and I don't imagine worth refinishing. I would like to know how to give the upstairs a uniform, distressed look. I was thinking of a cramy white color. I have seen the look in magazines but most often in an outdoor setting. Any suggestions would be gratly appreciated. Thank-you. :)

not sure what exactly is your question----how to acheive a desired look? how to apply paint to the existing surface? how to prep the surface?

clarification might allow better suggestions......
