Is it possible (or advisable) to install 12" ceramic tile over an existing hardwood floor? The floor is in excellent condition since it was just refinished about two years ago. Thanks in advance.

Concrete underlayment is the preferred underlayment for ceramic tile. Any give in a wood underlayment will tend to cause grout to fail and tiles to crack.

Hi
Even with concrete board on top, there is the risk of failure, since the thinset needed between the board and the hardwood will cause it to swell....causing the concrete board to move..and the grout joints to crack....best if it was removed if you have your heart set on ceramic.
