View Full Version : Self Cleaning Gas Oven

Hi,

I was wondering if you have any directions on how to use the self cleaning oven in a gas stove. I have a Sears Kenmore (GE) Gas Range, model # 362.7333191. The person I bought my house from did not leave the owners manual and I really don't want to pay $30 to get a new one just to learn how to use the self cleaning part. Any information that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I have searched the web with no luck so I think you are going to be my last resort.

Thanks,

:)

Hello Jane Yeager. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

I certainly appreciate your confidence in my ability to help you. The request is a tall order and I just hope I can help, even in a small way.

Try putting the lever control into the locked position. It should be pushed over to the far right hand side like a dishwashers door lock handle.

Then turn on the thermostat and set the control on the front panel to the self clean mode. A light, if equipped with one, should turn on to indicate the cycle has begun.

You have not mentioned what you already tried to do to activate the cycle nor what settings and or lights turned on to indicate the cycle has started.

It's possible the handle lever is bent to far to the left. Pushing it harder may bend it back into the correct position. There may be some other condition and or defective part preventing the cycle from beginning or the entire cycle is defective.

Difficult to diagnose the actual problem from a remote location like this text only format. it may have to be corrected by a local professional or buying the owners manual.

Thanks Tom. There is no problem with it, I just have no idea even how to start using the self cleaning portion of it. I will do what you suggested and will post again to let you know whether it works or not.

Thank you again,

Jane Yeager

Hello: Jane

A worthy note here may be appropriate.

If all goes well, the cycle will perform it's function correctly.
There are often a few simple primary steps to take before starting the cycle.

Usually the steps are to be sure all items are removed from the baking compartment. Racks can remain. All other baking pans, dishes, etc. must be removed.

Once the cycle is started, on many if not all ovens, the cycle cannot be stopped once started. The cycle will produce excessively high temperatures {above the 550 + on the thermostats dial} within the ovens baking compartment.

On some brands and some early models, the outer cabinet of the oven [on the built in oven only types} and or the entire free standing stove and oven combo units the surfaces can get HOT!

The self cleaning cycle can last for what may seem like a long time period. However, once completed, splashes, spills, boil-overs, grease spots, etc. will be incinerated into ash and or become charred clumps.

Upon the completion of the entire cycle and the cooling off period, open the ovens door and with a moistened sponge or cloth, wipe up any and all remains.

Please be advised that although I have spent many years in the gas and gas appliance industry, some appliance information and or diagnostic information provided is exclusively from memory....hopefully written whenever a "Pre-Senior Moment" isn't in progress....hahaha........:)
