How durable is ceramic tile when used as flooring? We're getting ready to tile our kitchen and don't want to be replacing cracked tiles in the future... thanks!

Ceramic tile is as durable as the floor you put it on....if your subfloor is prepared properly, ceramic tile will last a lifetime...and longer.

I have been installing Porcelain tile for years in high traffic areas, we do both business and homes, the greatest part is the color of the tile is consistent throughout and not just a surface coating. Most any supply house or home center will have samples for you to see. good luck

See my response to JimInFLA in the thread below "Tile Question (texture - gloss/polish)". Porcelein tile is indeed very durable because it is hard, dense, and smooth. It is also frost proof and can be used outdoors as well.
Ceramic tiles are available from $.89 SF on up. So, you can imagine the range of quality that is available. I prefer a Class IV (Porcelein Enamel Institute rating) for residential/light commercial. There are also many beautiful Class V commercial tiles available.
If tile is not properly installed on the proper underlayment (concrete underlayment board recommended) where there is no give or movement under the tile, then the most expensive and highest quality tile will fail as will the grout.
