I have a bathroom that has tile 6 feet up, it is in great shape and really good stuff. it is of the 4 1/4 inch pattern. The problem is this, most of it is a nice black/white color, but it was done in the 1960's, and it has a pattern in which there are 40 squares of pink. (the floor is pink also but that is a complete replace job) I would like to color the pink with black. I have been told I can treat them and paint them, but I have no idea how to do that? Please advise.

Selecting a few ceramic wall tiles can be repainted using epoxy paints. Stop by your local paint store. You might want to get creative on these special tiles.

I used a special primer for tile and glass surfaces on ugly tile in my kitchen and then painted with oil-based paint. It worked really well.
I might have had other thoughts if it would be scrubbed vigorously everyday, but even as a stove backsplash it was fine. Never had a problem.
So if I were you I'd consider that, but make sure you get a really good smooth brush.

I typically don't recommend painting ceramic tile in areas that are exposed to use and abuse such as on floors, counters, and showers. For decorative purposes on areas no exposed to harsh conditions, handpainted tiles should do quite well.

Since this is in a hard use area, I think I will forego the painting, so, can I get these out of the pattern without damageing the surrounding tiles? They are place in two's, diaganally, completely surronded by the tile I wish to save. Replacing 40 at a buck a peice is no big deal, I just don't want to ruin the rest
