I'm going to start remodeling my sun room (interior). I want to remove the carpet and lay stone tile over concrete. My ? is where the tile and carpet will meet at the doorway to the living room, How do I secure that 36" wide carpet back to the floor after cutting it away for the tile installation at the threshold? Our home is built on a concrete slab.

Thanks, James

Hi James,

Make the initial cut so you have a couple inches of extra carpet. Install the tiles straight across the opening at the point that is halfway under the door when it is closed. Install a carpet tack strip about a quarter inch away from the tiles. Re-cut the carpet so you have 1/4 inch hanging over the tiles. Pull on it a little and hook it on the tacks. Then tuck the surplus down between the strip and the tile with a flat screwdriver or stiff putty knife. Tap down the pins/tacks with your hammer so they don't poke barefooted people.
