View Full Version : Whirpool Gas Dryer - No Heat

We have a Whirpool dryer (Model LGT7646EQ1) that runs fine, except there is no heat. After disassembling the dryer, I can see that the pilot light/glow plug does not come on and no gas comes out in the burner area. The motor & timer work perfectly. I have tried the different heat settings on different cycles and the results are the same. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Gary. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Most likely problem is a burned out glow coil. I would suggest this be the first item to replace. The part isn't all that expensive nor difficult to replace.

A few tips might be in order here to further help.

Open the burner compartments access door.
Be sure to turn off the gas next. Look for a TINY lever on the gas supply pipe to the right of the gas valve and on top of the valve. Turn this valve to turn off the gas without having to physically move the dryer.
Remove the 2 wire quick disconnects from the solenoids which are on top of the gas valve. Note which one goes to which solenoid.
Then unscrew the nut on the union coupling pipe on the right side of the gas valve. The nut turns COUNTER CLOCK wise.
Remove any securing screws on the plate which holds the gas valve assembly. Should be 2 screws in the front and possibly 1 in the center.
Carefully remove the entire assembly. then remove the old coil.

Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem solving methods, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair proceedures and instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.

An excellent source for orginal replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store. Appliance parts dealers test and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store. The info will help to determine the ignition system and possible problem causes.
