We just moved into a house with a 10 year old HEIL- Air/Heat unit. Are you aware of any specific problems with this manufacturer?
Also what can you tell me about the air filters that cost significatly more than the usual paper/fiberglass types? Are they worth the extra money or are they actually doing more harm than good by constricting airflow.

Hello MARK and Welcome to the Heating and Cooling Appliance forum and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
In my opinion, all residential heating units are just about the same. Now that statement says nothing but it is a fact. There are only a few manufacturers and they purchase the parts from the same parts companies.
Manufacturers mass produce the units and stick their brands name label on it or another companies brand name label on it and ship the unit out the door.....period.
Regarding the filter, I would always suggest using the type and style the manufacturer recommends. However, any generic brand will do fine, as long as the filter has the same qualities.
The above means whether you want to pay for the label name or generic brand of the same type product....???? Similar to a prescription drug....name brand or generic...same product but costs less and comes wrapped in brown paper...LOL!...:)
There are no specific problems that I am aware of currently. I would suggest you have it serviced and check by a licensed heating and A/C authorized dealer yearly. Manufacturers do not build heating units to last 30+ years, like units of yester-year....:D
And there you have it...."My Entire Two Cents Worth."....:)
