I Am thinking of putting in replacement windows & wondering if there are vinal or metal trim kits avail. anywhere to cover the wood part left outside. I have metal siding that buts up to this trim or will i have to get material & fab. myself.

If you just put in window inserts, you will not need to do anything with the outside of the window. These are less expensive, easier to install, and just as good. If you are going to replace the entire window, jamb, frame and all, you may have a problem especially if you have metal siding. Good Luck
