Our old farmhouse has hot water radiators and we bought some older fancy ones, but found out they are for steam. Can they be converted to hot water? Will they be efficient? If not, did they ever make fancy hot water ones?
Thanks for the help.

Hello Shamrockfarmgal. Welcome to the Heating and Cooling Appliance forum and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
Your question is: "Can they be converted to hot water?
The answer I can offer is: Contact your local heating agency.
Your second question was: "Will they be efficient?"
My quick and direct answer is NO.
At least not by todays fuel costs and energy efficiency standards, in most areas of this country.
Your third question was: "Did they ever make fancy hot water ones?"
Honestly, did they ever? I doubt it. That's why covers where designed for radiators. To hide them from plain view, even in the days when radiators began replacing other forms of heating appliances like fireplaces, oil and wood burning stoves, etc.
For purposes of keeping the home looking as close or exactly as to it's orginal design, replacing the radiators makes perfect sense.
If the purpose intent is what matters, keep the radiators. If energy efficiency and home heating is the intent, obtain estimates on newer equipment.
And there you have it...."My Entire Two Cents Worth".
