Here's the situation: my builder goofed up
on the brick. I had asked for a specific
type of red brick without any black in it,
but he installed the one with the black.
Now he is going to just stain the bricks
that have the black (in order to remove it).
His argument is that brick is stained anyway
in the kiln in order to give it any color.
Staining it on-site would be the same thing.
However, there are other issues that I am
concerned about:
a) affect of wind/rain/sun on the stain.
b) regular maintenance (how long does a
normal stain-job stay good?)
c) affect on the brick's breathability
(possibly creating a moisture trap)
Does anyone have experiece with this?
Thanks very much,
JKV

Contact the brick maker. The brick maker has a vested interest in answering all of your questions. Obtain the brick name and lot number then ask the supplier for the brick makers name. Most of the U.S. brick makers and major suppliers are listed here: www.bia.org (http://www.bia.org) (where to buy brick). If it's Canadian brick go here: http://www.canadabrick.com/
