I am building a small, modest sun room. I want to install a Wenco Vinyl Patio Sliding Door. I had one installed in the house a year ago and like it a lot. I want to intall this new one for the sun room by myself (and a friend) to save money.
Question: these doors are very heavy. Can the main sliding door (the piece that opens) be removed in these to lighten the weight? This 'weight' issue seems to be the major stumbling block in this being a do-it-yourself job. Thanks.

With most sliding glass doors I'm familiar with the sliding panel can be removed by sliding the sliding panel to the full or almost full open position, then lifting the panel up and out of the threshold. Try it on the Wenco door you have already installed.
It is very important that you follow the manufacturer's installation instructions which will include reinstalling the panel prior to actual installation. And the part about caulking under the threshold is really important.
Good Luck!

Thanks John. Yes, such a 'common sense' answer. Yes, I looked at the existing door. The 'slider' comes out as you said when fully opened. Not as young as I used to be, however! Even the single panel is 'hefty'. Would have spinned it around my head in 'younger days' but as an 'old guy' a bit more huffing and puffing.
