What is a darby? I know it is used to apply stucco, and I assume it is in the trowel family.

A darby is a large wooden float (many are home made). Its main use is in leu of a bull float on concrete but only for smaller slabs. Stucco is applied either with a pump or by hand with a hawk and trowel. In stuccoing a darby might be used flatten a large area, (rodding with a straight edge is more common), but 95% of the time it's not a must have tool for stuccoing.
