i have a mitsubishi tv thats about 14 years old i guess and something funny has happened. my picture went out but i still get my menu clear and bright as can be and i still get sound. sometimes i will get a very dark picture, could this just be a matter of replacing my tuner? or could it be something more? id be thankful if someone can help. feel free to email me

Good Morning, krZy:

No, the tuner wouldn't be the problem. Since you still have sound, it is a good bet that the tuner is still doing its job. Since
you have menues, it is safe to say the video amplifier is still
functioning and the High Voltage is intact (to light the picture tube).

I would be looking for the problem in the pre-amplifier stage(s) of the video circuit.

But, you should consider that the costs for repairing these units today are a little pricey. Since the set is 14 years old, it is not worth the expense to bring it back to life. After you pay a $200+
repair bill, you still have a 14 year old set.

Smokey advises you take the money and put it into something new and take the family television shopping for Christmas. The
decision is yours.
