I am building a 3 season sun room. One side is 8' wide. I would like to put glass slider door, 6' wide there.
I am 'fairly' handy. I went to Home Depot and looked at the doors. They don't appear to be that difficult to install.
If things are kept straight and square... is installing a slider in a newly framed wall all that difficult? Seems straight forward BUT we've all said that before and learned our lessons. I wouldn't want to tackle this project in an existing wall.
On a scale of 1 to 10, is this a difficult project for the do-it-your-selfer? Getting someone to install it doubles the cost but is it worth it?
Another question: these doors are HEAVY. If never having handled one before, how many guys should I have help? one or two?
Thanks. These forums saved me hours of running around and saved out family a pile of money.

They're pretty straight forward.
Just shim them perfectly plumb and level with beveled shims.
Caulk under the door frame and behind the flanges and flash around them, too (especially over the top) under the siding, as you install it.
You and one other person should be able to handle a 6' door, but they ARE heavy. Just be careful.
Good Luck!
Mike

Hello, You may not realize it, but these doors aren't installed as one piece. You asseble the door frame and install it. you then install the fixed sash then install the slider, so you don't lift the whole thing at once, makes a big difference.
