Why are you going to cover the existing door? If you put a piece of plywood over the door as a skin, you're going to have to do a lot of work with the hinges. If it's just cosmetics, look to just put a veneer skin on it. Go to the Constantine web site and look in their venner section for door skins. http://www.constantines.com/. May have to move the hinges with this, but no where near the amount you would have to do with plywood. The plywood may not stand up to the elements if it's on the outside facing portion of the door.

my painted front door looks too plain, I would like to make it more attractive. Idea is to remove existing door skins and replace them with plywood, hinges not affected. I am not sure that veneer will work because existing skins are textured.
But thank you for idea.
