I have a Pioneer projection television model SD-P5185. The color convergence is not working. For weeks I have been adjusting it and turning the television off. It has worked over the last weeks. Now the color will not adjust. The red & blue will meet but not the green. What do I need to replace? What has gone wrong? I purchased this television in 1996. What can be done to fix it? What caused this problem? There is a lot of dust in the back of the tv. Do I need to use condensed air to clean it. My tv sits in from of my blower for my furnace.

First off you MUST move the set from in front of the blower! Condensed air will be fine as well as a vaccum cleaner first. As far as the convergence I understand that you may have to do a hard reset and start all over to be able to get the convergence right. I am not the resident TV guru but maybe lucman can help? Our TV guru is on vacation...

I have tried a hard reset I suppose. According to my Pioneer book I should hit the "return" button on the front panel to reset the convergence. That worked for sometime now it only sets the left and right side not the top, upper left, upper right and lower bottom, lower left and right. I guess we'll have to wait until the guru returns.

I'm having the same problem, but, mine JUST started. I was FINE this morning, but, tonite there is about a 2 inch gap between the white cross and the RED vertical line. THe horizontal line seems to be alright, as well as the others.

I can't find my book, but, will a hard reset work for me? I'd hate to haul it into the shop or have a tech come out to the house if it was something I could do.

Can you tell me how to do the reset?

Thanx in advance!

I have the same problem, too. I have a Pioneer projection TV, SD-P4683, five years old. Starting from one month ago, the image at the bottom of the screen began to cave to the middle. I tapped the TV slightly, and it would correct itself. But as time went on, I had to whack it harder to correct it. Now, it finally gave up no matter how hard I strike it. The bottom image is always doubled or tripled mixed with upward arches of different colors. What is the problem? Anybody help?

Thanks for any advise!

Hello, world:
The guru is back from vacation.

Convergence problems are usually caused by a diode on the convergence board. These little critters have a tendency to short out and cause the convergence to do strange things.

Obviously, this is not a job for the home owner because few of you know electronics. So, call in the technician to make the troubleshooting of the circuit. The diode costs $.98. The technician will cost you about $250. Don't ask me to explain it.
That's the way it is today.

Well, Smokey, you hit the nail on the head! I had a tech come out, $55.00 just to show up, then it took him longer to bust the cabinet open than to fix it and the total was $404.91.

I don't think he hooked up my DVD player correct as I have no picture just sound. So, I've got to take the set out of the cabinet that it is in to get to the connections behind the TV. Looks like a weekend project.

Thanks for the input.
