This past week, my Rheem gas furnace shuts off before the temperature reaches the setting on the thermostat. I replaced the thermostat and the problem persists. Any ideas what may cause this problem? The furnace is 6 years old - Criterion model
Thanks,
Bob

If your thermostat is a mercury switch ( looks like a little glass bubble with silver liquid on a clock spring ) check to make sure the thermostat is level. There should be marks on the back plate that mounts on the wall that shows where to level it and there should be one screw that you loosen to adjust.

Thanks resercon - I replaced the old thermostat (mercury) with a digital and the problem remains.

I would try to eleiminate the thermostat as the possible cause of the problem. If you have your old thermostat, reinstall it and see if the problem persists. If it does not, then it's the programmable thermostat.

It's definitely not the thermostat since this occured with the old one installed. Someone suggested it may have something to do with the circuit board. Any commnets?

It could be the circuit board or a relay, I suggest you have a qualified technician come out and take a look at it.
