we have a new gas fired boiler for a three story 1850's home with individual controls on each radiator (two rooms on each floor, plus bathrooms on each floor). some radiators are new (seem to provide the most "controlled" heat), some old. Our problem is getting even heat. Second floor is boiling, third floor is not consistent heat. First floor radiators aren't even hooked up and room tempurature is too hot (just from the boiler running). Any ideas on how to get more even heat with all the individual controls??

Don't know what type of system you have. Is it steam, 1-pipe or 2-pipe? Was it converted from a 2-pipe to hot water. Is it hot water? Forced or gravity? Was it converted from a gravity to forced?

It is steam, one pipe.

Please go to the top of this web page and click on " editor's choice web links " then click " Energy and Weatherstripping " then click on " Residential Energy Conservation " read topic Steam Systems.

I will resolve your problem, but I need more information. I am assuming that you are either controlling the radiators with the shut off valve located on top of the pipe at the floor or you have a non-electric thermostatically controlled air vent valve designed especially for steam 1-pipe systems. One maker is Honeywell and the other company starts with a "A". Please read the topic on steam systems it will give you some insight on how steam systems work and their concerns. Then get back to me and let me know how the radiators are being controlled and if you are experiencing any of the problems mentioned on my site.
