I have a sub-standard roof over my back deck. It was built by the previous owner to keep water from flooding the basement. It needs to be taken down; do I need to rebuild it or can I replace it with an awning? Which would be easier and less expensive?

An awning might be cheaper, but only temporary.
You need to remove the old roof, and build a good one.
Is it flat and angled out?
Is it attached to a wall or the roof above?
