Heeeelllllppppp! I am painting my bedroom a satin burgandy color over flat white. It looks terrible because no matter how I try, roller or brush, I can't get rid of the streaks and get the color even. I painted around the baseboards and doors in the beginning and those areas remain tremendously darker. I did not prime like I should have. Can I go back and prime and if so what do I prime with and do I use half-tint of the finished color?? Also any suggestions on what I can paint with that will not produce the marks??

Georgia Peanut, Just a few years ago my advice would be to get the color made in a flat latex and paint a couple of coats and proceed with the satin. Now its getting to the point that that won't work either because the flats act about as badly as the satins. What I do now is insist on the highest grade paint counting on two to three coats of the final finish. I prime flat black using Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black in SuperPaint for this and where possible use SuperPaint for topcoat. Make sure before the final goes on that there are no white or any other color marks, patches, scratches or anything that will not cover. It is a shame it has come to the point that dark colors are difficult for a pro painter and almost impossible for the DIY'er.....Mike
