I have a 6ft red oak walking staff and a pewter staff topper about 1/8th of an inch deep. It fits ontop of the staff but there are no mounting provisions on the topper. Simply slathering epoxy has proved to be entirely ineffective and easily broken. I have tried using liquid metal weld to attach a nut to a "bridge" on the bottom of the topper and it screws into the staff fine and then breaks upon tightening. Are there any tips? If anybody wants some diagrams I can email them to you.

Many thanks, Chris

Can you tap the ornament? If so then you can get a double ended screw like the ones for mounting table legs. One end is a wood screw the other a machine screw. Screw in the wood side first and then the ornament.

Check out rockler.com for the screw.
