On a PYE-PHILIPS 21' TV I have no visual signal at all, and the only indication of power is a strange sound from the speaker.
Any suggestions will be appreciated

Thanks

Good evening, Maria:
The "PYE' doesn't tell me much. What is the model of the set and approximately how old is it? I assume, since it is 21 inches, that it is a tube with a picture tube and not a projection set.

Have you checked for a blown fuse?

Dear Smokey,

thanks for the reply. I do appreciate the information, since I am not really familiar to TV systems. Corresponding to what it is written on the back of the TV, the model must be 52KV2525/05B (A51EAM32X16, year of 1989 (probably). However, I did manage to check the main fuse and it is ok. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Good Afternoon, Maria:

There are, of course, a number of things that will cause a television set to cease to function. Such items as a blown fuse, a bad cord, or a low voltage power supply failure are common in the older sets. Since you are not familiar with the television systems, I am reluctant to put you in harms way by asking you to remove the back of the set. Better leave this to someone who is familiar with the set and its inner workings.

There is a website that provides good information on these problems and it might help you to check through it. Pay attention to Section 22 which deals with a dead or non functioning set:

Good evening Smokey,

Thank you for all the help. Although I did manage to remove the back of the TV set, I decided to follow your advice, check with the proposed web site and if this does not work, ask the help of a technician.

Thanks again

Maria

I'm sorry I could have been more help, Maria. Troubleshooting problems for a forum have some criteria and your problem left me in a quandry. With no expertise on the unit, it is difficult to give you quantitive advice.

But, we care at DoItYourself.com. Let us know how this all turns out.
