I've got a weird problem, my Rear projection Zenith will not completely power off. The Red LED and Soround LED on the front stay on, and if I listen real close to the speakers, I can hear static. Anyone have any clues on what this may be?

Thanks

Good Evening, pylon27:

The fact that a HV board replacement caused the sound and video to return encourages my stiputlation that you have a problem in the Low Voltage Power Supply. More specifically, a filter capacitor (maybe two).

If you think dianosing TV's is easy, check out this site:
The variables are enormous.

Thanks Smokey

Trust me, I never thought diagnosing TV's was easy. Unfortunately, every TV repair guy I've called, no one wants to touch this thing. So I'm stuck at trying to get it working myself. I'm still trying to find where the Low Voltage board is that your talking about. i'll keep you informed.

Good Morning, pylon27:
Well, projection TV is a little beyond a lot of the old line techs. I saw the same thing years ago when everything switched from tubes to transistors. The old line guys choked up and died off.

But, I have had a lot of experience with projection units going all the way back to the old GE Tallaria units and up through the new LCD Graphics Projectors. The projection units are not as difficult as you would think but you need a little different mind set to work on them.

I would suggest you contact Union Electronics on the web and get a service manual on the unit. I would suggest the manufacturer but Zenith is lousy about keeping data on their units. Union Electronics is located at
