Hi, I want to save myself some money and have some fun and make my own speaker cabinets. The electrics side of things I can handle but I haven't a clue how to go about making the actual boxes. I reckon this is a fairly simple job. Any tips?

It's all about volume. Some speakers come w/specs on what the box dimensions should be. You may want to check out the speakers first and then think of a design on the box. Adding a tuned port may alter the volume requirements.
Also, I'd go with MDF or OSB over plywood for the box.
You may want to eyeball crutchfield.com. In the past they have provided volume info on particular speakers.
