I have a crawlspace over my apartment which has no insulation at all. I plan to install R-38 faced insulation from Owens Corning. I plan to do the installation myself. I will have no problems laying in empty joists up there. But some of the joist have my heating ducts in them. What is the past way to put insulation in these joists with the duct work. Under, over, or on the sides of the ducts. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I would install the insualtion under the heat runs if there is enough room... Since heat rises it should keep the floor warmer in that immediate area..

Remember paper goes toward the heated side.. I would either use tiger teeth to hold the insulation in place or staple 1" wide platic banding to the underside of the joists going the opposite direction of the joists.

Good Luck
