View Full Version : insulating the attic

I am insulating an attic that has a floor section and a slanted roof section that is approximately 10 feet deep.(The house is 120 year old farm house.)The slanted section forms the slanted ceiling of the second floor bedrooms(the bedrooms have ceilings that are partially horizontal and partially slanted). I plan on insulating with blown-in insulation and to ventulate the main attic with 22 inch vent in the front and rear walls of the attic ,thus turning the attic into a cold area. The question I have is"Do I need to also install vents in the soffits and as well use styrofome baffles in the slanted sections... or can I just blow the material between the rafters(in the slanted section) and not worry about ventulation of the slanted section and moisture problems ?" Hope some kind person can answer this big problem/question for us.We would appreciate hearing various suggestions.Jerome& BRENDA
