What is the best type of wood for making a bed?

Depends on how much that you want to spend and how long you want it to last.
Pine is the easiest to work with, but a good hardwood (oak, maple, etc.) will last much longer.
Of course there is pine (and other softwood) furniture that is several centuries old.
Your call.
Good Luck! Mike

There is no single "best" wood for making a bed. There are many hardwoods that could be used to make an heirloom bed. It depends on how you want it to look when its finished. How dark do you want it? How mauch grain do you want? What style of bed? To me, the best is cherry, but thats because I love the look of cherry furniture. Many people prefer oak, but I don't care for the grain of oak. Some people love pine furniture.

Black walnut is a beautiful choice, but very expensive.

If the bed is to be painted, birch is a good choice. Maple is good for either stain or paint.

Some styles look good with a contrasting mix of 2 woods. Cherry or walnut wouldn't look good used in missionary styles or spanish styles. Oak would be a better choice.

Sorry we didn't answer your question (make the decision for you). Bottom line - whatever wood you choose will be a good choice.
