I also have a dining table which is burl wood (veneer?) but then has a very high gloss finish. A vase of flowers got knocked over by a cat and it sat there for 8 hours till I got home from work. It seeped into the crack where the leaf connects to the table on the edges. The finish is chipping away in that area - plus a couple of scratches, too. Do I have to take off the entire finish and re-do? YIKES!!

Also, would it be a lacquer finish that I have? I don't know the difference between polyeurothane and lacquer.

The table is 25 years old. Thanks.
