How long should a thermocouple last? Furnice is ran on propane.

The flame should envelope about 1/2 of an inch of the tip of the thermocouple. The tip should be red hot. The pilot flame should be about 3/4 blue with a yellow tip (ON PROPANE ONLY).

So why do you ask?

If and when the thermocouple is replaced, Check the way that the flame hits the termocouple (See the previous Email). If the flame hits it too low, the thermocouple life and performance will be poor.

if you turn gas valve off at end of heating season. When heating season arrives next year just relight it.Oh yes,you will also save all that gas that the pilot uses during the summer when heat is not running.PDF
