Contact a professional who can clean and recoat the gelcoat surface and get an idea re: the cost. You can also get an estimate for redoing the bath by covering all surfaces with acrylic such as those done by http://www.bathfitters.com. You can also get an estimate from a plumber/contractor who can replace the unit with a 'remodeler' unit to determine what the cost would be for remodeling vs. refinishing. Most paints available for refinishing bath surfaces are not durable or practical from a long-term durability aspect. Gel coat finishes on fiberglass products tend to be thin and not hold up well to abrasive cleaners and long-term use.
