I need to repair the top of a wood dresser that has been charred badly. The dresser is pine, with a natural finish. It is also new. The burn spot is around 3 inches in diameter. The main problem is that the fire burned deep enough to reach press board. I believe it would need to be filled, and then restained. Since the spot is on the top of the dresser and directly in the middle, the repair needs to be perfect. PLEASE HELP!!:) Would using a wood filler work?? What do I do to make a filler look like wood grain?? Will I need to refinish the entire top of the dresser?? Thank you in advance for ANY tips or advice.

Since you have a 3" diameter burn that is a pretty big spot to cover and look right. The easiest maybe to sand the burned spot until you reach undamaged material. Fill with putty until level with surrounding material. Sand existing finish on top of dresser to rough up surface to accept new venneer top. Glue new sheet of veneer over entire top and finish to match rest of piece.
