I have been researching deck stains. I have used TWP and Superdeck in the past. Neither have lasted longer than a year, thus having to clean and reapply. I was told this by the TWP dealer in this area. It does get old. I was looking at a product called Penofin. The "blue" one has a 90% UV rating and their "red" one has a 99% UV rating.
Do you have any experience or feedback with this product?
There website shows them to be one of the best. Help!

pbaldry,
Most of the quality deck stains should give two years of service, and maybe a third. Just cleaning the deck is really not enough. ANY residual stain should be removed with a deck stripper, which is usually sodium hydroxide(lye). If not removed completely, the previous stain will prevent the new stain from being absobed into the wood.
The penofin claims to absorb deeper into the wood and this product has the needed requiremets for good results: oil-based, water repellency, and UV protestion. This product should be worth a try. Their uv ratings are probably self
administered, so go with the higher number.
Many mfgs suggest two coats, but I question the repellency of these if the second coat can still be absorbed.
Personally, I use Wolmans F&P, which also has the above three qualities.
Hope thishelped a little.

Hello
I have used Penofin with great results lasted three years with the usual cleaning each spring in Tahoe....You are much better off with two thin coats with drying time before second coat....follow all direction on the can for best results....Good Luck
